The Palace of wheels of Central India, the Deccan Odyssey recreates the Royal Past of the Marathas. Launched in January 2004, Deccan Odyssey is a collaboration of the Indian Railways and the Maharashtra Tourism. 01 DAY: WEDNESDAY: MUMBAI
You start your memorable journey on the Deccan Odyssey at 16.40 hrs from Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, one of the famous Gothic buildings and an integral part of Mumbai's skyline. You are served with tea undoubtedly wine and dine in the luxurious comforts of this train and whistle off on your royal voyage.
02 DAY: THURSDAY: SINDHUDURG NAGARI
Today you will travel to the tip of the Konkan coast, stopping at the Sindhudurg Nagari Station. From the station, a luxury bus will transfer you to Malvan Jetty. On your way walk through the local Weekly Market at Katta Village. From the jetty you will take a boat ride to Sindhudurg, the Ocean Fort & one time naval base of Maratha Empire. The fort is now a mere shell of its former glory, but still provides a unique glimpse into the area's past. A notable feature is that the foundation stones were laid down firmly in molten lead. You will tour the fort which was once filled with buildings, but now contains only a few temples dedicated to Mahadeo, Jarimai, Mahapursh, Bhavani and Shivaji. It also houses some twenty Hindu-Muslim hereditary families. From the fort you will move on to the beautiful beaches and pristine waters of Tarkarli, While there you will have a chance to rest in one of Tarkarli Beach Resort's Konkani-style cottages and you will enjoy some mouth-watering Konkani food. Next, bus ride up to Dhamapur village. On way visit to Cashew factory. At Dhamapur visit ancient temple of Goddess Bhagawati and Bharadi Devi situated on banks of beautiful lake. From there you will return to the Deccan Odyssey for a royal meal.
03 DAY: FRIDAY: GOA
You arrive at Karmali Railway Station in the morning and board bus to visit tourist spots in old Goa. Here you visit Basilica of Born Jesus Church, Se Cathedral Church and the Church of St. Francis of Assissi, a museum for Goan antiques. After you proceed to Panjim by bus. Here you have your lunch at Fort Aguada Beach Resort. After lunch you go to see Dona Paula, a small palm fringed beach with casuarinas groves and tranquility. You also Visit Fontanhas, the Latin quarters at Panjim. Then you return back to board the train from Madgaon railway station.
04 DAY: SATURDAY: KOLHAPUR
Morning alight at Kolhapur station. Kolhapur is well known for its textiles and cottons, in particular Kolhapuri saris. But it is of course most famous for its jewellery and leather sandals and Kolhapuri chappals. Post-breakfast; enjoy a bus ride till the major sightseeing attractions housed here. Visit the New Palace, a royal palace now partly converted into museum, Bhawani Mandap, and Mahalaxmi temple, a temple of goddess Ambabai visited by millions of pilgrims. Also visit the Shalini Palace and take delight in the traditional martial art performances and cultural programmes and visit the handicraft stalls for an insight into the heritage of the place. Return to the luxury train to depart for the next destination. Daulatabad. Enjoy lunch and some leisure time aboard the train. Dinner to be served onboard.
05 DAY: SUNDAY: DAULATABAD, ELLORA & AURANGABAD
In the morning you will reach at the Daulatabad station. Proceed by road to visit; Daulataba, which was once known as Devagiri, a magnificent 12th century fortress standing atop a hill. Daulatabad, which is constructed with excellent architecture, is one of the few invincible forts in Maharashtra. Mohammed Bin Tughluq, the sultan of Delhi gave the name Daulatabad 'The city of fortune'. Series of trick defense and secret escapes routes are the famous features of this fort. Next stop is Ellora caves, one of the highly visited World heritage sites of India. It houses 34 monasteries and temples with some exclusive uninterrupted sequence of monuments that date back from 600 to 1000 AD. The temples of Ellora are dedicated to Brahmanism, Jainism, and Buddhism. After lunch move on to see; Bibi-ka-Maqbara. The white marbled monument rises majestically in an intentional bid to copy and rival the world famous Taj Mahal of Agra. Free time for shopping Paithani, Himroo, Bidriwork from showrooms for a perfect memorabilia. Evening board the train from Aurangabad railway station. Dinner onboard.
06 DAY: MONDAY: CHANDRAPUR, TADOBA WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
Leisure breakfast, lunch and leisure onboard the luxury train. Noon arrive at Chandrapur Railway station. Board a bus to reach the Tadoba Wildlife Sanctuary, the second largest tiger reserve in India. Guests will be taken across the sanctuary in open jeeps. Tadoba Wildlife Sanctuary is among the most attractive sanctuary in the country. The park was established in 1935 and declared as a National Park in 1955 and since 1995, the area comprising the Tadoba National Park and Andhari wildlife Santuary together was designated as Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. It is the second Tiger Reserve project in the State. The park consists around 50 Bengal Tigers. Along with this other frequently spotted wildlife are Sambar, Gaur, Chinkara, Leopard cat, Pangolin, Panther, Spotted deer, Sloth bear, Chausinga, Nilgai, Barking deer, Indian bison, Wild dog, Hyena, Jackals etc. Tadoba National Park also an ornithologist's paradise with a varied diversity of Migratory birds and Water Birds. Python, Bengal monitor lizard and crocodiles are other inhabitants of this park. Return to the train for rest and a lavish dinner.
07 DAY: TUESDAY: AJANTA CAVES AND NASHIK
Morning Arrival at Bhusawal railway station. Board the bus to reach Ajanta Caves. Ajanta is one of the few historical and architectural marvels of India. Recognized as the World Heritage Site today, it was discovered during the 19th century by a group of British officers who were on a tiger hunt. The Ajanta group of caves, located deep within the Sahyadri hills above the Waghora, depicts the story of Buddhism that prevailed here during 200 BC to 650 AD. Ajanta's wondrous cave temples are cut into the rocky sides of a dramatic crescent-shaped gorge, at the head of which is a waterfall that drops over the mountain rim in a series of seven steps to a pool far below deep inside the mountain are the Buddhist chaitya vihara prayer and monastery caves. They cover a span of 800 years where under the royal patronage of ruling dynasties, professional artists helped Buddhist monks to create magnificent murals narrating the story of Buddha in his cycle of incarnations, while simultaneously creating a painted record of the panorama of life in ancient India. Etched and painted in mineral dyes, the paintings have a languorous stylized beauty and magical eloquence. Leisure Time onboard till evening. Alight at Nashik Road railway station to board the bus for departure to Panchawati Ghat a holy place known for Kumbh Mela. Next, visit to Kala Ram Temple built in 1794.Evening board the train at Deolali railway station. Farewell dinner on-board.
08 DAY: WEDNESDAY: MUMBAI
You will enjoy breakfast aboard the train as the sun rises over beautiful Mumbai. Here your journey comes aboard the magnificent Deccan Odyssey to its conclusion at Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus.
